How to Fill Out the Common App

August 23, 2024

As the summer days roll on, it’s time to turn our attention to an exciting milestone for high school seniors and college-bound students: the opening of the Common Application for the 2024-2025 academic year!

The Common App, a pivotal tool in the college admissions process, opened its doors on August 1. This is your opportunity to get a head start on your college applications and make the most of the summer to prepare for this important journey.

What You Need to Know:a

  1. Create or Update Your Account:
    • If you’re a returning user, log in and review your existing information. Make any necessary updates to reflect your current achievements and extracurricular activities.
    • New to the Common App? It’s easy to create an account. Simply visit CommonApp.org and follow the prompts to set up your profile.
  2. Explore the Application:
    • Take this time to familiarize yourself with the sections of the application. This includes the personal information, academic history, and extracurricular activities sections.
    • Don’t forget to explore the new essay prompts and start brainstorming ideas for your personal statement if you haven’t done so yet.
  3. Gather Your Documents:
    • Collect transcripts, recommendation letters, and any other documents you might need. Reach out to teachers, counselors, or mentors early to ensure they’re prepared to provide their support.
  4. Set Goals and Deadlines:
    • Create a timeline for completing each section of the application. Setting small, manageable goals will help you stay on track and reduce stress as deadlines approach.
  5. Reach Out for Help:
    • If you have any questions or need guidance, don’t hesitate to contact ACC. We’re there to help!

Pro Tips for Success:

  • Start Early: The earlier you begin, the more time you’ll have to refine your application and make sure every detail is perfect.
  • Stay Organized: Keep track of deadlines, required documents, and any other important details to ensure you don’t miss anything.
  • Be Authentic: Your personal statement is a chance to showcase who you are. Be genuine and let your unique voice shine through.
